Posting this here for anyone else interested in exploring Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep. It’s a guided meditation practice that brings you to a state of conscious deep relaxation between wakefulness and sleep. Prepare Your Space: Wear loose clothing that does not restrict your breathing or body. Find a quiet room where you will not be interrupted. Lie down on your back on a yoga mat or bed in Savasana (corpse pose). Keep your legs slightly apart and your arms at your sides with your palms facing up. Use props like a small pillow for your head, a bolster under your knees, or a blanket to stay warm, as body temperature drops during practice. Step-by-Step Practice: Focus on your breath: Close your eyes. Take a few slow, deep breaths and feel your abdomen rise and fall. Set an intention (Sankalpa): Create a short, positive statement in the present tense (such as "I am at peace" or "I am well"). Silently repeat it three times. Rotate your awareness (Body Scan): Move your mental focus systematically through your body. Start from your right-side fingers and toes, move up your limbs, travel through your torso, and finish with your head. Notice each body part without moving it. Explore sensations: Notice contrasting feelings, such as feeling heavy then light, or warm then cool. Visualize: Picture a peaceful image, like a calm stream, a clear sky, or a serene ocean. Repeat your intention: Say your Sankalpa silently three more times. Return gently: Slowly bring your awareness back to the room. Wiggle your fingers and toes, roll onto your right side in a fetal position, and use your hands to push yourself up into a seated position.
