Giving charity to the poor in Jewish tradition is one of the key ways that you can practice "chesed", or loving kindness.
The act of giving is built into the calendar in Judaism. For example, in Numbers 28:11, the Tanakh encourages an offering to be made every first of the month. And many Jewish holidays have charitable giving built into the customs of that day.
While you can align your charitable acts with special days or themes, you can also feel free to give something to the less fortunate on any day.
Any day is a good day to practice "chesed".
