Donation or generosity, known as "dāna" in Pali and Sanskrit, is a foundational practice in Buddhism. It represents the first of the "Pāramitās" (Perfections) that a practitioner cultivates on the path to enlightenment.
Donating to the needy, as well as to the monastic community, is seen as an act that can generate merit, purify the mind, and counteract the defilement of greed. Whether it's giving to a homeless person or someone else in need, the act of giving can have a big impact.
